I was devastated when I read the news this morning about the Egyptian cruise ship that sunk in the Red Sea on its way to an Egyptian port from Saudi Arabia. May God have mercy on the souls of those who perished and grant their families strength & patience. I don’t want to jump to any conclusions before an official investigation comes out with results of why this happened, but if I had to venture a guess I would say that, sadly, this is an unfortunate embodiment of the chaos that goes on every day on all levels in Egypt. In fact, it is somewhat surprising that things like these don't happen as frequently (thank God!), given the mess that the Egyptian system is in.

I usually get around Cairo driving my car. On one fortunate evening, I got the chance to sit in the back seat and stare at the rows of apartment buildings as we cruised at a mild speed down one of Nasr City’s streets. Each buidling ever so similar to its neighbors. Its original colors and design that were to differentiate it overwhelmed by the common color of the dust that has setteled over the years (or sometimes just months).
